Research Interests
My research focuses on forest ecohydrology, particularly the interactions among forest
management, disturbance, vegetation, soils, and water. I am especially interested
in silvihydrology, a term I use to describe the integration of silvicultural practices
and forest management with hydrologic processes, with the goal of understanding how
forest management can sustain or enhance water resources while meeting forest productivity
and ecosystem management objectives. My work examines how silvicultural practices
influence rainfall partitioning, evapotranspiration, soil moisture, infiltration,
runoff, groundwater recharge, streamflow, and water quality.
The second major focus of my research is disturbance hydrology, particularly how natural and anthropogenic disturbances, including timber harvesting, forest roads, site preparation, prescribed fire, drought, forest dieback, and storms, alter hydrologic processes and watershed function. My future research in Arkansas will combine field-based hydrologic monitoring, remote sensing, spatial analysis, and modeling to quantify these responses and identify management practices that enhance forest and watershed resilience and support sustainable forest management.
