UAM Student Wins 1st Place at the 2025 Microsoft Office State Championship
Ava Moyers has been named the Arkansas state champion in Microsoft Excel (Office 2019) in the fall qualifiers of the 2025 Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) State Championship, presented annually by Certiport. Moyers, of Monticello, Arkansas, is a junior business student at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
In addition to winning the competition, Moyers earned an MOS certificate, a globally recognized credential validating proficiency in Microsoft applications.
Her mastery of Excel developed under the guidance of Brennyn Seagler, instructor of business at UAM, while enrolled in the Management Information Systems course. The course is part of a broader initiative within the School of Business at UAM, which first incorporated Microsoft training programs into its curriculum in 2020. Since then, 252 certifications have been earned by students at UAM. The Excel program guides students in understanding the intricacies of the software through interactive scavenger hunts built into worksheets.
Seagler complimented Moyers for her willingness to engage with the program, stating, “Ava completed many different practice exams to sharpen her speed and formula proficiency.”
Competing against students from across Arkansas, Moyers achieved the highest score among her competitors, while also recording the fastest time. As the 2025 state champion, Moyers was invited to represent Arkansas at Certiport's 2026 Microsoft Office Specialist & Adobe Certified Professional US National Championships.
“I truly appreciate the UAM School of Business faculty guidance and support throughout my time at UAM,” Moyers said.
Dr. Marsha Clayton, dean of the School of Business at UAM, said, “We have seen amazing results from the MOS program at our school as students learn and validate key workforce skills. We are proud of all students who earn Microsoft certification and of Ava, who has proven to be the best in our state.”
