A UAM student email account has been created for you, and your new student account letter has been sent to the personal email address you provided on your admissions application. The email will come from UAM-ITHelp@uamont.edu.

Your new student account letter contains the important information needed to begin accessing UAM systems, including:

  • Your new UAM email address
  • Instructions for activating your account

Please read the activation email carefully and review all attached documents, as they contain required steps that help prevent account setup issues. The full account setup process occurs in stages and may take up to 24 hours to complete.

For security and privacy reasons, the student must complete the account activation process personally. Parents, guardians, friends, or other individuals should not activate the account or create the student’s password on the student’s behalf. Your UAM account provides access to personal, academic, and financial information, so it is important that only the student knows and maintains their login credentials. Students should keep their password private and should not share it with anyone.

When activating your account, you must use a desktop or laptop computer. Mobile devices and tablets are not supported and may cause errors during setup.

During the activation process, check your personal email for a message from Microsoft on behalf of the University of Arkansas at Monticello. This email will contain a verification code required to activate your account.

Once you receive the code, enter it on the activation page and follow the prompts to create a secure password.

Your password must:

  • Be at least 12 characters long
  • Include uppercase and lowercase letters
  • Include numbers and special characters
  • Avoid using dictionary words, personal information, or anything easily guessed. Creating a strong password helps keep your UAM account secure.

After completing the activation process and clicking “Finish,” the screen will return to the first page. Do not repeat the activation steps. Simply close or exit the browser window.

Be sure to save your login information in a secure place. You will use your UAM email address and password frequently throughout your time at UAM for services such as email, Workday, and Blackboard.

To help keep your UAM account secure, UAM uses Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). MFA adds an extra layer of protection by requiring both your password and a second verification step—such as approving a notification on your phone—when signing in. Even if someone knows your password, MFA helps prevent unauthorized access to your account.

The MFA registration process must be completed on a desktop or laptop computer. Mobile devices and tablets are not supported for the initial setup process because you will need to view prompts and a QR code on your computer screen while simultaneously using your phone to install and configure the Microsoft Authenticator app. Attempting to complete both steps on the same mobile device may cause setup errors or prevent the QR code from being scanned properly.

You will complete the MFA setup process the first time you log in to myUAM in Step #3. After clicking the myUAM link and entering your UAM email address and password, you will see a screen that says “Keep your account secure.”

Before moving forward, we strongly recommend downloading the Microsoft Authenticator app to your smartphone and having it ready. During setup, your computer screen will display prompts along with a QR code. Follow the on-screen instructions and use the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone to scan the QR code and sync your device with MFA. Completing these steps carefully will help avoid issues during setup.

Once MFA is set up, you will also automatically be registered for Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR). This allows you to reset your password anytime without needing to contact IT support.

MFA Best Practices

  • Make sure to set up multiple methods of verification (text, call, and app)
  • It is suggested to use your mobile device– do not use someone else's
  • If you have a smartphone, it is suggested to use the app rather than a text
  • When using a non-personal computer, it is recommended to not select “stay signed in”
  • Lock your phone with a passcode or biometrics and install updates regularly to prevent vulnerabilities.
  • Never approve unprompted MFA requests - If you didn’t try to log in, don’t approve the request — this could be a sign someone else has your password.
  • Report issues immediately - If you suspect your account is compromised or can’t access MFA, contact your campus IT helpdesk right away.

myUAM is your personalized, single sign-on portal for all things UAM. It gives you quick, secure access to essential campus tools like Blackboard, Workday, StarRez (Housing Application), Email, Microsoft Office 365, and more—all in one place. Once you're logged in, you can use the app launcher (the grid of nine dots at the top left) to find apps like Outlook email and Office apps.

Do not use your personal email address to log in to myUAM; you must sign in using your official UAM email address and your UAM password.

On your apps dashboard inside the myUAM portal, click on the Workday application to begin completing your New Student Onboarding tasks.

New Student Onboarding is a required process that helps finalize your enrollment and ensures your student information is accurate and up to date before registration. These tasks will appear in the “My Tasks” section of Workday after you log in.

Your onboarding tasks may include:

  • Confirming your personal and contact information

  • Reviewing and acknowledging important university documents

  • Adding an emergency contact

  • Completing additional items based on your student type, academic program, or campus location

All required onboarding tasks must be completed before you can register for classes.

Workday is UAM’s primary academic and financial system and will be used frequently throughout your time at the university. Through Workday, you can:

  • Complete onboarding and other required tasks

  • Review and update personal information

  • Check for holds on your account

  • View your class schedule

  • Monitor financial aid and tuition information

  • Confirm your academic advisor details

  • View billing and payment information

It is important to log in to Workday regularly to stay informed, complete required tasks on time, and avoid missing important deadlines or notifications.

Your UAM email account (Outlook) is the university’s official method of communication. Important information from UAM will only be sent to your UAM email address, so it is important to check it regularly.

Be sure to:

  • Check your email daily
  • Read important university announcements and notifications
  • Monitor messages from instructors, advisors, and university departments
  • Watch for information about registration, financial aid, billing, and class updates

Missing emails may result in missed deadlines or important information related to your student account and classes.

You can access your UAM email through the Outlook web portal inside your myUAM portal, the desktop application, or mobile app for convenient access on any device.

Blackboard is UAM’s online learning management system where you will access many of your course materials and academic resources.

After logging in to myUAM, click on the Blackboard application to access your courses. Within Blackboard, you can:

  • View course materials and syllabi
  • Submit assignments and complete coursework
  • Take quizzes, exams, and participate in discussions
  • Communicate with instructors and classmates
  • Review grades and course announcements

Your classes will appear in Blackboard after you are officially registered for them. However, courses are locked until the first day of the term in which the class begins. Once the term officially starts, the system will automatically open the course for student access.

Be sure to review your class schedule carefully in Workday, as not all classes follow the same schedule. Some courses run for the full semester, while others may be offered in shorter 6-week or 8-week terms with different start and end dates. It is your responsibility to know when each course begins and ends.

Regular participation in your courses is strongly encouraged and UAM is required to verify attendance and participation for financial aid purposes. Students who do not actively participate in their courses may be reported as non-attending and could be dropped from the course.

It is important to check Blackboard regularly for course updates, assignment deadlines, announcements, and other important class information throughout the semester.

Avoid Account Lockouts

To help prevent your UAM account from becoming locked, it is important to keep your login information updated across all of your devices and applications.

Common causes of account lockouts include:

  • Entering an incorrect password multiple times
  • Using an old password saved on a phone, tablet, or computer
  • Saved passwords in email apps or web browsers attempting to sign in automatically with outdated information
  • Multiple devices trying to connect to your account using an expired password

If you change your password, be sure to immediately update it on all devices and applications where your UAM account is signed in, including:

  • Outlook email apps
  • Mobile devices and tablets
  • Web browsers with saved passwords
  • Blackboard or Microsoft applications

To avoid access issues:

  • Do not share your password with anyone
  • Use a strong and secure password
  • Save your password in a secure location
  • Sign out of devices you no longer use

Keeping your account information updated and secure will help reduce login problems and prevent unnecessary account lockouts.

If You Need to Reset Your Password

If you forget your UAM password or become locked out of your account, you can reset it at any time using the UAM Self-Service Password Reset tool. This process is available online and is designed to help you quickly regain access to your account.

To reset your password:

  1. Go to www.uamont.edu

  2. Select the myUAM portal

  3. Enter your UAM email address

  4. On the password screen, select “Forgot Password”

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset process

Please note: To use the self-service password reset tool, you must have previously set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on your account. If MFA has not been set up, or if you experience issues, contact the UAM IT department for assistance.

Important Security Reminder:

UAM IT will never ask for your password via email, text message, or phone call. Always keep your login credentials private and secure.

Password Requirements

Your password must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 12 characters long

  • Include both uppercase and lowercase letters (case-sensitive)

  • Include both letters and numbers (alphanumeric)

  • Include special characters (such as space, !, #, etc.)

  • Do not include your username in any form (as-is, reversed, capitalized, or repeated)

  • Avoid dictionary words, including foreign or technical terms

  • Do not use example passwords or commonly used passwords

  • Do not use easily identifiable personal information (such as phone numbers, license plates, Social Security numbers, addresses, or names of family members)

Helpful Tips for Creating a Strong Password:

One effective method is to create a passphrase or acronym from a sentence that is meaningful to you. For example:

  • “I work 8 hours a day.” → Iwork8hoursaday or wrk8hrsdy

  • “We like to eat lunch at 11:30.” → Weliketoeatlunchat1130

  • “My dog eats too much.” → myDogeats2much

Protect Your Password

To keep your account secure:

  • Memorize your password whenever possible

  • If you must write it down, never store your username and password together

  • Do not leave written passwords in visible or unsecured locations (such as on your desk or monitor)

  • Destroy any written copy once it has been memorized

  • Do not allow others to observe you while entering your password

  • Change your password regularly

  • Change your password immediately if you suspect it has been compromised

  • For added security and convenience, consider using a trusted password manager application to securely store your login credentials, allowing you to easily retrieve them when needed without the risk of losing or forgetting them.
