Welcome to the University of Arkansas at Monticello Concurrent Enrollment page! If you are a high school student interested in getting a head start on your college education, concurrent enrollment allows you to take college-level courses while still completing your high school diploma.

This is a great opportunity to earn college credit early, explore academic interests, and experience what college coursework is like—all while saving time and money.


  • Concurrent Enrollment is the enrollment of a high school student in a college course for high school credit and college-level credit. Concurrent enrollment allows students to obtain credit toward a high school diploma at the same time they earn college credit.
  • Concurrent Credit Course is a college-level course offered by an institution of higher education in Arkansas that upon completion would qualify for academic credit in both the institution of higher education and a public high school.
  • Dual Enrollment Course is the enrollment of a high school student in postsecondary education exclusively for college credit. High school students enrolled in a dual enrollment course may petition the district or high school to consider allowing the college-level dual enrollment credit to be considered for high school credit.
  • Approval -The UAM concurrent enrollment program is approved by the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

  • If you are interested in receiving concurrent enrollment (college credit + high school credit), please contact your high school counselor to discuss eligibility requirements and concurrent credit course offerings to achieve maximum benefit from concurrent enrollment.
  • If you are interested in receiving dual enrollment (college credit only), please contact the UAM Director of Concurrent Credit at (870) 460-1668.
  • Concurrent credit may be received by the following:
    • On site at UAM’s 3 campuses (Monticello, Crossett, or McGehee) with a UAM approved faculty member
    • Online with a UAM approved faculty member
    • On site at your high school with a high school instructor approved by UAM
  • Eligibility/Admission Requirements for both concurrent enrollment and dual enrollment:
    • High school student in grades 9-12
    • Complete UAM concurrent admission application
    • Proof of immunizations clearly showing two MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) injections and/or exemptions
    • Letter of recommendation from a high school administrator, completed on official school letterhead, indicating that the student may enroll in college-level work
    • Qualifying placement scores (acceptable exams include: ACT, Accuplacer Next Generation, SAT, or CLT.  ATLAS may be  used for CTE placement only, if summative ELA and Math scores are within the 2, 3, 4 level range. Please contact your high school counselor or the UAM Director of Concurrent Credit for course specific test score requirements.

  • For a student born internationally, Arkansas law requires Department of Health Tuberculosis Screening and UAM requires completion of a Tuberculin Data Collection Questionnaire for College Students.
  • Returning concurrent enrollment students do not need to complete a new application or submit additional admission documents. Unless they would like to provide updated test scores for course placement.
  • Please contact your high school counselor to obtain the necessary supporting documents (transcript, immunization, letter of recommendation, placement scores). After you complete your UAM admission application, contact your high school counselor to discuss course registration.

Concurrent students may have the option to take courses:

  • On the UAM campus
  • Online
  • At their high school (if offered through a partnership program)

Course availability may vary by term and location.

If you are taking  courses on the UAM-Monticello campus, please be sure to complete the following after you are successfully admitted and registered.

  • Pick up a copy of your UAM Student ID – (Residence Life, Second Floor of SSC suite 204.) You will need to bring a copy of your class schedule with you.
  • Get your parking permit - (University Police Department) You will need to bring your vehicle registration, driver’s license, and student ID.
  • Start checking UAM email. Email is the official means of communication at UAM. UAM Account Information.
  • Map out your classes. Feel free to explore the classroom buildings to find your classroom before the first day. If you need help locating the building, please contact the Director of Concurrent Credit.
  • If you are taking online classes, please familiarize yourself with UAM’s learning management system, Blackboard. Course material will not appear in Blackboard until the first day of classes.

If you are taking concurrent credit courses on the UAM-College of Technology campuses in Crossett or McGehee, please check with the Dean of Students to complete similar items on these campuses.

  • Students must meet all eligibility requirements to enroll in courses
  • Not all courses may be available to concurrent students
  • College courses become part of your permanent academic record
  • It is important to balance high school and college responsibilities
  • As a concurrent high school student, you are required to follow all UAM policies and procedures. It is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with the UAM Concurrent Student Handbook and the UAM Student Handbook.

Public School District Students: Access to Acceleration (A2A) applies to a student’s account if the course meets the definition of a concurrent credit course. Any remaining balance is the responsibility of the district per the specifics in a memorandum of understanding between the institution of higher education and the district. The student, or the student’s parent or guardian cannot receive a bill for up to 15 credit hours per semester or associated materials.

Access to Acceleration (A2A) applies if the student is dually enrolled in any college-level course. The student, student’s parent or guardian may be responsible for any remaining balance.

CTE courses paid for by a secondary career center are not eligible for the Access to Acceleration Scholarship per A.C.A. § 6-51-30.

Auto Registration fees or traffic violations are the responsibility of the student’s parent or guardian. 

Home School Students: Access to Acceleration (A2A) applies to a student’s account for dual enrollment or concurrent enrollment and any remaining balance is the responsibility of the student, student’s parent, or guardian. If a student is eligible for Educational Freedom Account Funds, it can be applied to the student’s balance.

Auto Registration fees or traffic violations are the responsibility of the student’s parent or guardian.

Once accepted, students will receive guidance on:

  • Registering for classes
  • Accessing student accounts and learning platforms
  • Understanding expectations for college coursework
  • Preparing for their first semester

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education. FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children's education records. These rights transfer to the student when he or she reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level. If a student wants the University to release any educational records, the student must complete the “My Friends and Family” section of Workday.
