What is Intramurals? Intramurals (IM's) is an organized program that allows all current UAM students*, faculty & staff the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of sports and special events which foster personal, educational, ethical and, physical development. What if I don't have a team? If you don't know enough people to make up your own team, sign up on the "free agent" form in the Intramural office & we will try to help you find a team. What is Co-Rec? Co-Rec stands for Co-Recreational, meaning males & females playing together on the same team. Special rules encourage more equal participation. Co-Rec events include basketball, table tennis, volleyball, softball, mud olympics & sand volleyball. Does it cost anything to participate? No! All activities are provided at no cast to you as an enrolled student at UAM or to UAM faculty & staff. Should you choose to protest a contest, a $10.00 protest fee (refundable if protest is upheld) is required. What do I need to play? Besides the desire to have fun, play hard and exhibit good sportsmanship, appropriate athletic shoes must be worn with limited exceptions. Equipment is provided for all activities except softball, for which you will need a glove. Most equipment is available for check- out from the IM/Rec office for practice. How many games do I play? Depending on the number of entries, teams usually play 3 pre- season games followed by a single elimination tournament, while individual & dual sports are usually scheduled as single or double elimination tournaments. Teams & individual participants must maintain a "B" average in sportsmanship to advance regardless of win/loss record. What does the program offer? The opportunity for individuals and teams to participate in a wide variety of competitive sports and special events and recreational activities. How do I get involved? Participation is completely voluntary. Simply complete the appropriate entry form and submit it to the Intramural office by the posted deadline.** Current IM activities are listed on the website, in The Voice online, posted around campus, and sent to students weekly via campus e-mail. * - Some restrictions apply to current & former intercollegiate team members. ** - Some sports require attendance of a team manager, captain, or coach at a Manager's Meeting prior to acceptance of a team in that sport. Manager's meetings are listed in the IM Schedule. |
