" A professor can never better distinguish himself in his work than by encouraging a clever pupil, for the true discovers are among them, as comets amongst the stars. "
-- Carl Linnaeus
Dear Teachers,
The Arkansas State Communication Association (ASCA) is a professional organization made up of high school and college speech and drama teachers. It is the goal of this organization to provide assistance to Arkansas teachers who will be teaching a course in drama. You will find two things in this section of our WWW homepage that we hope you will find useful.
First, there are six different units of study outlined that could be incorporated into a drama class. You are to use these areas as a menu (See links in left sidebar). Select from those units any combination you find appealing. Each area offers the opportunity to develop drama skills. The length of the units may vary depending on your knowledge and the student's interest. Do not feel that you must include all six areas of study.
The second part of the information includes activities you might find helpful in teaching a drama class. These activities were submitted by members of ASCA and are included to help stimulate some creative thinking on the part of the teacher and the student. Please feel free to use them as you wish and to duplicate and pass them on to others who would like to have a copy.
If you have any questions or concerns, there is a member of ASCA who would be more than willing to help. Please contact Marisa Arnold, our Committee Chair for mentoring, or our Executive Secretary, John Gale, and she will put you in touch with someone nearby. Their mailing addresses are:

This Drama outline, and the activities that accompany it, demonstrates the work of many teachers from around the state of Arkansas. A special thanks to all the contributors for their time and effort.
