UAM Releases Final List Of June 2017 Graduates

MONTICELLO, AR — The University of Arkansas at Monticello presented 121 awards to 95 students who completed their academic requirements in June, according to information released today by the UAM registrar’s office.

Free Big Band Jazz Concert To Feature Nationally-Known Jazz Artists

MONTICELLO, AR — Jazz aficionados will be able to hear some of the country's top jazz artists when they perform as part of the All-Star Jazz Camp at the University of Arkansas at Monticello July 19. The All-Star Jazz Camp Big Band will take the stage of the UAM Fine Arts Center at 7 p.m. for a free concert. The 18-member band will include Paul Henry of the Airmen of Note, the internationally-acclaimed jazz band of the U.S. Air Force, as well as Mike Williams, trumpeter for the Count Basie Orchestra and Scott Whitfield, trombonist for Johnny Griffin's Big Soul Band and the Nat Adderly Sextet.

John Harvey Named Director of Athletics; Will Continue As Baseball Coach

MONTICELLO, AR — John Harvey, the most successful baseball coach in University of Arkansas at Monticello history, has been appointed UAM's director of athletics. Harvey assumed the role of interim athletics director in November while continuing as head baseball coach following the departure of Chris Ratcliff. Harvey will continue to coach the Boll Weevil baseball team, which he has led to a record of 193-146 in seven seasons.

McGehee Campus To Hold Commencement June 30

MONTICELLO, AR — The UAM College of Technology-McGehee (UAM-CTM) will hold commencement exercises for the class of 2017 at the UAM Fine Arts Center at 2 p.m. June 30. Graduates will be from the following programs: associate of applied science degree in general technology, administrative office technology, diesel technology, early childhood education, health information technology, heavy equipment operator trainer academy, hospitality services, welding technology, and the GED in adult education.           For more information, contact Sharon Cantrell at (870) 460-2106.

Crossett Campus To Hold Commencement June 29

MONTICELLO, AR — The UAM College of Technology-Crossett (UAM-CTC) will hold commencement exercises for the class of 2017 at the Crossett city auditorium at 7 p.m. June 29. Cedric Coleman, a 2004 industrial technology graduate, will be recognized as the 2017 Outstanding Alumnus.

Boll Weevils Basketball Coach Kyle Tolin Signs Multi-Year Contract

MONTICELLO, AR — Kyle Tolin accomplished something in 2017 that no University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball coach had been able to achieve in 61 years; he led his team to a conference championship. Tolin was rewarded for that championship today when he became the second coach in UAM history to sign a multi-year contract. The two-year agreement includes automatic two-year rollovers through 2022.

UAM Receives STEM Grant To Support Mathematics Education

MONTICELLO, AR — The Arkansas Department of Higher Education has awarded a No Child Left Behind Grant to the STEM Center at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, according to Kim Level, interim dean of the UAM School of Education.The grant, which totals $60,888, will be used to provide middle school teachers with math content and pedagogy to improve student achievement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The UAM STEM Center was one of 10 chosen statewide to receive a grant.

2017 Tomatoes At The Trotter Set For June 22

MONTICELLO, AR — Heirloom tomatoes will be on the menu as part of the seventh annual “Tomatoes at the Trotter” on June 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s Trotter House bed-and-breakfast at 404 North Main in Monticello. The event is being sponsored by the UAM School of Agriculture and the UA Southeast Research and Extension Center.
