McGehee 2014 Practical Nursing Class Presents Nursing Scholarships

Three practical nursing students from the UAM College of Technology-McGehee have been awarded scholarships by the 2014 practical nursing graduating class through the student organization of the Arkansas Licensed Practical Nursing Association (ALPNA). The scholarship recipients were required to write a letter explaining their need for the scholarship and were chosen by a scholarship committee of the 2014 graduating class based on the contents of the letter. Kim Ray, sponsor of the student organization, hopes to make the scholarship opportunity available on an annual basis. Political Science Students Attend Model United Nations

MONTICELLO, AR — Five political science students from the University of Arkansas at Monticello participated in the 2015 Collegiate Model United Nations Conference hosted recently by Arkansas Tech University.

Forestry Graduate Student Wins Second Place Poster Award At 2015 Society Of American Foresters National Convention

Alex Hoffman of Chanhassen, Minn., a graduate student in the School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, won the second place poster award at the 2015 Society of American Foresters National Convention held recently in Baton Rouge, La. The poster, titled “Canopy Gaps Effects on Seedling Growth of Three Hardwood Species of Southeastern Arkansas,” examined the effects of harvest-created canopy gaps on corresponding seedling growth.

Debate / Forensics Team Enjoying Success During Fall Semester

MONTICELLO, AR — The debate team at the University of Arkansas at Monticello is enjoying a strong fall semester in competitions in Arkansas, Texas, Tennessee and Louisiana and may be in position to win the school’s first national championship in debate since the 2007-08 academic year, according to Debate Coach Jim Evans.

UAM To Host Orientation For New Students January 4

MONTICELLO, AR — The University of Arkansas at Monticello will host an orientation session Monday, January 4 beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center for all new students planning to attend the Monticello campus in the spring semester.

Political Science Honor Society Inducts Two New Members; 2016 Officers Installed

MONTICELLO, AR — The University of Arkansas at Monticello chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national collegiate honor society for political science majors, recently inducted two new members, according to Dr. Carol Strong, associate professor of political science and the chapter’s faculty advisor. The new members are Emily Mendiola of Hamburg, a junior political science and modern languages double major, and Cassidy Mansur of Crossett, a junior political science and psychology double major.

Hamburg Student Awarded Cingolani Scholarship

Kate Steen (right) of Hamburg, a senior agriculture major at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, is the 2015-16 recipient of the Aldo Cingolani Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was established in memory of Aldo Cingolani of McGehee by his family and friends. The scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior enrolled in the UAM School of Agriculture who has shown strong academic progress and excellent professional potential. UAM Students And Faculty To Present At ACTELA Conference In Little Rock

MONTICELLO, AR — Dr. Kay Walter, associate professor of English, and 13 students from the University of Arkansas at Monticello will make research presentations to the 2015 Arkansas Curriculum Conference of the Arkansas Council of Teachers of English and Language Arts (ACTELA) in Little Rock this week.
