UAM to Host Orientation for New Students January 9

MONTICELLO, AR — The University of Arkansas at Monticello will host an orientation session January 9 beginning at 8 a.m. in the Fine Arts Center for all new students planning to attend the Monticello campus in the spring semester.

Gary Meggs Named To Four States Bandmasters Hall Of Fame

MONTICELLO, AR — Gary Meggs, the man who revitalized the marching and concert bands and created the jazz program at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has been named to the Four States Bandmasters Association Hall of Fame.

UAM To Hold First Mid-Year Commencement December 17

MONTICELLO, AR — For the first time in school history, the University of Arkansas at Monticello will hold a mid-year graduation ceremony when the university presents degrees during commencement exercises on Saturday, December 17 at 10 a.m. at Steelman Fieldhouse.

UAM Debate Team Competes At LSU-Shreveport Tournament

These seven members of the University of Arkansas at Monticello debate team competed at the recent LSU-Shreveport Debate Tournament. Pictured from left are Natalie Edwards of Fort Smith, Gabe McDorman of Sheridan, Ben Graves of Hot Springs, Blake Adkins of Vilonia, Kyle Hargis of Warren, Luke Beatty of Dermott and Zach Young of Wilmar. Others competing but not pictured were Jacob Chisom of Monticello, Grace Nash of Mount Holly, Abbygail Rounsaville of Mabelvale, and Nshyka Shelton of Monticello. Chisom reached the round of 16 in the varsity debate competition while Adkins and Hargis each reached the final 16 in junior varsity debate. Chisom and Graves reached the semifinals in team debate.

Forestry Students Attend National Society of American Foresters Convention

These seven undergraduate students from the School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Arkansas at Monticello attended the 2016 Society of American Foresters national convention in Madison, Wis., recently. Four of the seven participated in a quiz bowl tournament and the group toured the headquarters of the Aldo Leopold Foundation. Crossett Student Receives Woodmen of the World Scholarship

Christian Harris (left) of Crossett, a sophomore in the electromechanical technology-instrumentation program at the UAM College of Technology-Crossett, was recently selected to receive a $300 scholarship from the Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Company-Lodge 7. Making the presentation is Scott Kinard, Lodge 7 president. The Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Company-Lodge 7 established its first book scholarship to be awarded annually to a student at the UAM College of Technology-Crossett. The scholarship is presented based on grade point average, a strong work ethic and recommendations from faculty and staff.

UAM History Professor’s Article Receives Honor

MONTICELLO, AR — An article by Dr. Sharon Silzell, an assistant professor of history at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has been selected as the article of the month by Feminae: Medieval Women and Gender Index.
