The Fred J. Taylor Library welcomes community users to use in-house library resources. Eligible external users may also apply for limited circulation privileges. However, UAM students, faculty, and staff receive first priority regarding library collections, services, and equipment. As a result, some library services are limited or not available to external users (e.g., interlibrary loan, extensive reference, etc).
Public School Teachers: Users must be members of the Southeast Arkansas Educational Cooperative. No application-processing fee is required.
Adult Residents: User must be age 21 or older. An ANNUAL application-processing fee of $50 is required.
UAM Employees’ Dependents & Spouses: Dependents must be age 14 or older. The completed application must be approved by the UAM employee. No application-processing fee is required.
Application Procedures
A current Library Courtesy card and a driver's license or photo identification card are needed to borrow materials. Fill out an
Library Courtesy Card Application (PDF) and take it to the library circulation desk. Applications can also be acquired at the circulation desk if you do not wish to print a copy from the above link. A completed and approved application is required annually. All courtesy periods are from July 1- June 30. Community users are allowed to borrow up to three books at one time.
Local High School Students
General access to library resources is available to high school students. However, they are NOT eligible for circulating privileges. The UAM Executive Council has adopted the following policy regarding high school groups:
"Throughout Southeastern Arkansas, students at various levels like to use the University Library. Regrettably, we cannot make the library as accessible to secondary students as we would like. The building is pressed to serve the needs of our undergraduates, especially during certain hours of the day."
"We believe we can best serve our students and our constituents by limiting outside group usage to groups of 25 to 30 accompanied by a teacher. Because undergraduate library use is heavier at certain hours of the day, we need advance arrangements for group visits. We will continue our policies for individual library use by the general public."
