Community Users Policy

Eligible Community Borrowers | Application Procedures | Local High School Students |

Eligible Community Borrowers

The Taylor Library welcomes community users to use in-house library resources.  Eligible community users may also apply for limited circulation privileges.  However, UAM students, faculty, and staff receive first priority regarding library collections, services, and equipment.  As a result, some library services are limited or not available to community users (e.g., interlibrary loan, extensive reference, off campus access to article databases).

Eligible Community Borrowers

Adult Residents
User must be age 21 or older.  An ANNUAL application-processing fee of $50 is required.

Faculty Emeritus
There is no application processing fee.

SAESC Employee/Teachers
Users must be an employee of the Southeast Arkansas Education Service Cooperative (SAESC) or teach at an SAESC public school.  There is no application processing fee.

UAM Employee’s Dependent and Spouse
The dependent must be age 14 or older.  The UAM employee must approve the completed application.  There is no application processing fee.

Application Procedures

A current Library Courtesy card and a driver's license or photo identification card are needed to borrow materials.  A Community User application form is available at the library or can be printed from the Taylor Library Web site.  A completed and approved application is required annually.  Your Library Courtesy card will be valid for one year.  Community users are allowed to borrow up to three books at one time.  Items may be renewed once.

Local High School Students

General access to library resources is available to high school students.  However, they are NOT eligible for circulating privileges.  The UAM Executive Council has adopted the following policy regarding high school groups:

"Throughout Southeastern Arkansas, students at various levels like to use the University Library.  Regrettably, we cannot make the library as accessible to secondary students as we would like.  The building is pressed to serve the needs of our undergraduates, especially during certain hours of the day."

"We believe we can best serve our students and our constituents by limiting outside group usage to groups of 25 to 30 accompanied by a teacher.  Because undergraduate library use is heavier at certain hours of the day, we need advance arrangements for group visits.  We will continue our policies for individual library use by the general public."
