These are among the important questions studied by the political scientist faculty at University of Arkansas at Monticello, which means that YOU have the opportunity to explore each of these areas of research in the classroom here at UAM. Political Science is important! It helps you understand the world around you by allowing you to compare the American political system and way of life to other systems around the world. It is a diverse study that ranges from the study of politics in the United States (American politics) to the study of relations among states and peoples around the world (International Relations), as well as the philosophical study of political ideas (Political Theory). The department is organized into two major streams: American politics and Comparative World Politics/International Relations. An emerging field here at UAM is our pre-law stream, which offers classes ranging from Sexual Harassment to Constitutional Criminal Procedure. Several subfields – especially public law and administration, comparative world politics and political violence (including terrorism) – cut across these main areas and provide focused specialization for undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in political science or law. Students of political science learn to think critically about individual, group, and mass behavior in political settings. Using their knowledge of political institutions and processes, as well of world politics, students who earn degrees in political science have the opportunity to enter such careers as government service, law, business, journalism, electoral politics, education, and non-profit management. The Political Science department at UAM invites you to join us and explore those issues that really matter the world today. Contact us today at …
