West Staff Writer The Wesley Foundation decided to renovate their building this semester and help a local food bank and family by adopting six children from Africa. The building's repairs and upgrades cost the foundation around $35,000. To pay for these needed repairs students decided to hold an old-fashioned benefit auction Sunday, Oct. 28 in the backyard of the Wesley building. The auction starts at 5 p.m. and will continue until all items are bought. The group will host a barbecue during the auction; though the group does not require a fee to join in on the barbeque, they will accept donations. Area churches will sponsor this benefit. Adopting the children from Africa cost around $40,000, and the family needs help offsetting this cost. The proceeds from the sale of a Harley Davidson motorcycle will go to the family adopting six children from Africa. Other items include a 54-inch television, brand new Bow Flex machine and a chandelier. The foundation came up with some big plans for Halloween too. They will host a “Haunted House” Oct. 29-30. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tours will continue as long as people are coming in. No one under 11 will be admitted. This year's theme will be horror movies. There will be characters such as Jason, Freddie Krueger, Frankenstein, Count Dracula and other classic horror movie characters from the past 30 years. The entrance fee will be one non-perishable canned food item. All the canned food items will be donated to the food bank in Monticello to help area families. “The main purpose of this is to help out the local food bank," said Kavan Dodson, director of the Wesley Foundation. The foundation
collected around 150 cans last year in one night. Since this year’s Haunted
House will be for two nights, they said they hope to raise twice as much.
