 Foley Engages in Deviant Practices

Todd Kelley
Contributing Writer

Hello again, everyone. How you been? I thought I would come out of my pseudo-break to visit a bit of election-time fun with everyone. My subject today: Mark Foley.

I am not going to do what you all think I am going to do, and freak out on Foley. I think that everyone else is doing a good job of that. Though, I would like to kick him while he lies in rehab bleeding from his priestly wounds, I will take the higher road, this time.

I agree with many people in this situation, the fact that the man has sexual deviant practices sucks. Foley has a knack for people and politics. He did not strictly vote on political lines, all in all a solid pick for GOP seat retention. Unfortunately, he could not keep little Foley from sneaking into little boys dreams.

To hit the homosexual slant, I will not disappoint those of you that categorize me as a flaming liberal even though I am more a realist than anything else. The man has a right to be gay if that lifestyle makes him happy; I do not argue that. His abuse of taxpayer time, money and trust to fuel his perverted fantasies luckily sickens many, and I applaud the GOP for their condemnation of those tactics. I do wonder if they are going to follow through with it after he comes out of rehab… So many jokes, but enough of them; there are important matters to be discussed.

I wish I were naïve enough to believe this scandal just happened to come to light as if by god for the vindication of the parents and pages of this tragedy. I wish that I could believe that it came as ambrosia from the heavens for Democrats to take control of the legislative branch of government. I should not harp on what might have been, though. I want you all to share in my newest conspiracy theory, and the ramifications of it. Starting with this really fun question.

Am I supposed to believe that clerical assistants know more about the inner workings of our government than the people we elect to it? I have heard by different news outlets that pages talk among themselves about Foley and his tendencies. If the truth of the matter can be taken from that one statement, why the hell don’t we make the pages come in and handle this war business for us? They seem to be privy to deep-cover intelligence that no one else has.

No, I am afraid that even though it all sounds pretty good on paper, reality does not work that way. Democrats and Republicans knew what the pages did; we are being battered by the smoking gun syndrome, again.

If you are not aware of what a smoking gun does in politics, let me explain: When a President, like Bill Clinton, gets caught with his hand in a woman’s cookie jar, that becomes a Republican smoking gun. Since Republicans are using that kink in Clinton’s armor to batter Democrats, it would work in reverse, right?
I personally cannot wait to hear someone bash Clinton again; I want to point out that at least he was not a pedophile. Perhaps I would like to tell Ann Coulter that yes Democrats may be Godless, but they do not harbor sexual freaks. But maybe not, after all, this is happening because we are in a critical election year and Democrats want to play by the rules set by the Republican PR machine of 2000.

Come to think of it, I would be willing to bet the money I do not have on this one. We are falling into a trap. If we let it happen this election, just like it did with the Republicans, we will be playing into a game of look at the funny monkey. Now, in all honesty, I love the irony of the situation; please do not mistake that. I just wonder if irony makes the degradation of our democracy worth it.

Voters would be much better served to vote the issues this season. By that I mean take the time to learn what actually happens in government and do some thinking about it. Do not vote along party lines; both parties have good and bad points, both have their deviants also. Take the time, do the research an
d vote on what YOU think would be better for our government. God knows we are running out of freedoms and we should milk this one for all we can.
