Guest Commentator I’d see her just about every time I dropped by the Monticello Branch Library. She browsed among the fiction stacks, touching this one and lifting down that, focused on her search for a beloved title or a new author. Barbara Babin always had a ready smile and a cheerful greeting for anyone else browsing those stacks, no matter how intent she might be on her own literary hunt. Barbara remembered names and she remembered the big events in everyone’s lives. She listened – really listened – to the answers when she asked after family members or a recent trip. A brief
conversation with Barbara Babin could make the heaviest heart
lift and the most frustrating experience seem a mere bump in the
road. Whenever our paths crossed in those library stacks, I’d
spend the rest of the day smiling, feeling so much better about
myself because of Barbara’s genuine concern and sparkling
attitude. We are all enriched for having had Barbara Babin in our lives. Have a comment? Please e-mail us. ©The Voice 2006 Revised 01/13/2008 03:25:41 PM — http://www.uamont.edu/Organizations/TheVoice/4_12/comment4.htm |
