Contributing Writer The most anticipated show on campus happens in less than one week. On Tuesday Oct. 4, the Fine Arts Center will be alive with the sounds of student bands from all over the musical spectrum. The UAM Arkansas Theta chapter of Pi Kappa Delta and the Debate Society are hosting the 3rd Annual Battle of the Bands. This year’s show will feature Monroe, La.’s Rock 102.7 deejay Brian Bailey as the emcee. Also, this year’s show boasts a special performance by the national champion steppers, Alpha Phi Alpha. A new edition to the Battle of the Bands format includes a People’s Choice Award, in which the winner gets air time on Q-100, the local radio station. "We like the idea of the people getting to choose who gets airtime on their own local radio station," remarked Tim Williamson, a debate society member. The entertainment for the night will include six bands: Even Side, Diversity, Funka-Fresha-Licious, Obelisk, The Autumn Effect and SufferKate. Many of the bands have performed in past shows and have enjoyed local success from the exposure they received from their performances at the Battle of the Bands. In-between the bands, solo singing performances feature Jermaine Smiley, Thad Webb, Lauren Barnett and more. Tickets cost $5 with UAM identification or $6 without, and may be purchased at the door beginning at 6:30 p.m. The show starts at 7 p.m. Proceeds benefit Pi Kappa Delta and the Debate Society, currently raising money to travel to England, Scotland and Wales next March on the Montgomery Cup Debate Exhibition.
