Sept. 17 – “Constitution Day” celebrates the signing of this
significant document in the life of each American. Student Affairs will host
“Constitution Day” on the UAM campus with the following programs:
Sept. 19 - Deadline for "Family of the Year" nominations. Has someone in
your family gone that extra mile to help you get into college or stay in
college? Show how much you appreciate them! Take a few minutes to compose a
short essay describing why your family member(s) deserve this recognition.
Nominate your parent(s) or other family members for UAM Parent/Family
Appreciation Day "Family of the Year." The selected family will be recognized
during the opening program on Parent/Family Appreciation Day on Oct. 1. Complete
a nomination form and return it to the Intramural or Student Health offices
before 4 p.m., Sept. 19. For more information, contact Julie Gentry at

Sept. 20 -
The volleyball team opens their Gulf South Conference
schedule at 7 p.m. against Arkansas Tech at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville.
Sept. 20-21 - Student Health Services will be conducting FREE Total Cholesterol
Screenings
on Tuesday and Wednesday. To make an appointment, contact Terri Richardson at

Sept. 24 - The forensics team competes at Ouachita Baptist University in
Arkadelphia, Ark.
Sept. 27 - Senior nursing students will discuss living with diabetes
at a free public presentation from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Spencer Gallery of the
Fine Arts Center. The presentation will include a discussion of treatments,
medications and special considerations for individuals with type 1, type 2 and
gestational diabetes. For more information, contact the Division of Nursing at

Residence Hall Association Officers Gary Meggs
Gary Meggs,
director of bands, presented a jazz improvisation clinic for junior and senior
high school band directors from throughout Arkansas at the recent Arkansas
Bandmasters Convention in Hot Springs. Meggs spent three weeks in Santa Fe,
N.M. with Grammy-winning saxophonist Eddie Daniels to prepare for the clinic,
which was sponsored by the International Association of Jazz Educators.
Fraternity Rush: Monday, Sept. 19: Kappa Alpha Order Rush (Caucus
Room-7 p.m.) Walk, jog or run your way to a GREAT STUDENT
(FACULTY/STAFF) BODY
and earn a FREE T-shirt! Walk, jog or run 50, 75 or 100 miles by the end of
the Fall semester and be well on your way to having a physically fit, "GREAT"
Student Body. Participation is open to all current UAM students, faculty and
staff. Mileage must be completed by Dec. 16. Miles completed on treadmills,
stairmaster, etc. count toward total miles. (Athletes may NOT count miles
completed as part of their practice.) Sign up in the Intramural Office (lower
level - University Center). Participants are required to record their weekly
mileage on the official chart in the Intramural office. Anonymous Alcohol Screenings – UAM faculty, staff and students can take a

Sept. 19 - The U.N.I.T.Y. choir will rehearse at 7:30 p.m. in the
Music building, Room 133.
Sept. 20 - The Student Activities Board will meet from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the
U.C. Capital Room. Any student may join. For more information, contact Robin Barker,

meet from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Gibson University Center Caucus Room. Any

Alpha Chi Student Honorary conducts regular business meetings for
members only during the activity period (12:40 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.) on the
second Tuesday of each month. The Chi Iota Sigma club meets on the first Thursday of every month
at 1 p.m.

for Hurricane Katrina victims who are in Monticello. Thus far, they have donated
clothing, toiletries and games. The Chess Club meets Mondays at 4:30 p.m. in room A-23 of the Science

– The Phi Beta Sigma chapter is holding a "Miss Blue and White"

Spring break dates listed in the UAM Catalog 2005-07 for
spring 2006 and spring 2007 have been corrected in the online catalog to reflect
the following: spring 2006, March 20-24 and spring 2007, March 19-23.
The University's U.S. and Arkansas flags will fly at half-mast until
Sept. 20 in honor of Chief Justice Rehnquist and in support of the many
individuals affected by hurricane Katrina. UAM's new
master plan is available for viewing on the University Home page.
Tentative refund dates for the Fall 2005 semester: Planning to graduate in May 2006? Fill out and submit a graduation
application to the Registrar’s Office, Harris Hall 102, by Oct. 7. Unsure of
when you may be eligible to graduate? See your adviser to review your degree
audit. The UAM Bookstore now carries apparel and gift items (shirts, cups,
