Top 10 Xbox Games

Bradly Gill
Arts & Entertainment Editor

The launch date of the Xbox 360 edges ever close and with it, the fall of humanity. Last week we took a look at the top 10 retro Nintendo games. This week we get a little more current with the top 10 Xbox games.

   10. "Fable" - Although this game was not nearly as good as it should have been, "Fable" still provides at least a couple of days worth of amusement as you collect tattoos, kill balverines and try to decide if you are going to be evil or good.

   9. "Dead or Alive 3" - Though the popularity of fighting games has waned in the last couple of years, "Dead or Alive" is a masterpiece. I am not even going to get started on the "jiggle engine" which improved the, um, overall graphics of some of the female fighters. Definitely the best fighter for the system.

   8. "Jade Empire" - Set in a world based on mythical China, "Jade Empire" is a lengthy role-playing game where you set out to become a martial arts master. You practice with weapons and even styles that let you turn into a demon. The game was produced by BioWare, a name you are going to see a lot on this countdown.

    7. "Mercenaries" - Think "Grand Theft Auto" in a war zone. You play as one of three mercenaries set down in the middle of Korea. The game is mostly mission based, but it has a real sandbox feel as you can just wander the streets and destroy things. Literally everything in this game can be blown up.

   6. "Halo" - This is the game that took multiplayer death matches to a new level, no pun intended. "Halo" is still pretty visually enticing despite its sequel coming along and taking all the glory. You have to remember, without "Halo" there would be no "Halo 2."

  5. "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" - Remember when I said you would see BioWare on this list again? This is one of the reasons. KOTR lets you assume the role of a Jedi, something fanboys have been drooling to do since Luke first drew a light saber. This game takes weeks to complete, given you have a real life and like to sleep.

   4. "Ninja Gaiden" - The popular NES title was revamped for the Xbox. As Ryu, a complete badass of a ninja, you hack and slash your way through demons using a variety of weaponry. There's no complex plot; you're just a ninja and you kill things.

   3. "Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind" - The latest installment in the popular PC franchise, "Morrowind" lets you do almost anything. You can master magic or just be a common place thief. The map is huge, with the game taking place on an entire continent. You will also encounter thousands of characters on your journey.

   2. "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II" - Although it may seem redundant to have this sequel on the countdown, fans of the first game have to play this title.  It has everything from the first game and more. It’s longer, there are more force powers and you have a greater control of the story. Who knew the dark side could be so cool?

   1. "Halo 2" - The best game for the system. The day "Halo 2" was released, colleges saw a noted drop in attendance. Since that day, people have spent hours blowing up their friends with rocket launchers, submachine guns and energy swords. The games cut-scenes are as good as any Hollywood blockbuster and the dialogue is far better.
