'Housewives' Debut on DVD

Eric Gaston
Staff Writer

"Desperate Housewives" follows the lives of four central characters. The show dispels the myth of a perfect life in the suburbs. It became an instant hit when it premiered on ABC last fall. "Housewives" received mixed reviews initially from critics, but the number of viewers showed otherwise.

As with other groundbreaking series like "Lost," "Sex and the City" and "Weeds," no one could have fathomed the success seen by "Desperate Housewives." Nielsen’s Ratings tracked the over 25 million viewers tuning in each week to catch the wives in action. The show offers some essential elements of a show, consisting of mystery, comedy and drama.

The show centralizes around the lives of suburban women portrayed by actresses Teri  Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman.

The DVD contains extra features such as: unrated, extended episodes, deleted scenes, audio commentary from the actors and producers, and a special quest visit from Oprah Winfrey.

The DVD is a must-see for fans of the series or newcomers hoping to become fans of  the show.

Last word, this DVD series must be purchased -- it will be money well spent.
