Florence, Ala. — The University of North Alabama used a 33-point second quarter to propel past Arkansas-Monticello on its way to a 59-21 victory, Saturday night at Braly Municipal Stadium.

The Weevils began the first quarter with a bang. Senior running back Craig Reed dashed 65 yards down the right sideline on the second play from scrimmage to put the Weevils ahead 7-0.

After the Lions tied the game at 7-7, UAM marched 65 yards on seven plays, scoring on a 15-yard strike from Cory Allred to Von Mixon.

The Lions countered on their next possession, scoring on a 68-yard halfback pass from DeMarcus Blount to Marcus Wallace, taking only 15 seconds off the clock. Chris Allen blocked the PAT, UNA's first miss in 68 attempts, to preserve a 14-13 advantage for the Weevils for the remainder of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Lions awoke and scored two touchdowns in the first four minutes, and capitalized on a fake punt attempt by UAM to score a third time, less than a minute later to go ahead 35-14.

The Lions tacked on 11 more points in the quarter, including two safeties, to put the game out of reach 46-14 at intermission.

The Weevils defense played tough in the second half as Jermaine Madison returned a fumble 23 yards for a score, but the offense could not find any rhythm down the stretch.

The Weevils return to action Saturday, September 18, as they welcome GSC foe West Alabama to Monticello. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
