The University of Arkansas at Monticello's division of Agriculture hosted more than 250 high school students March 24 at the 2005 Southeast District FFA Day competition.

The students competed in a variety of categories, including forestry, livestock, farm business management, meat judging, dairy foods judging, poultry, agronomy, nursery and landscaping. Chancellor Jack Lassiter welcomed the students to campus prior to the beginning of competition.

Other speakers included Kelly Bryant, chairman of the division of Agriculture and director of the Southeast Research and Extension Center, Crystal Grimes of the office of Admissions, and Ann Horne, southeast district FFA coordinator.

First through third place teams will compete at the State FFA Contest April 15 in Fayetteville and April 22 in Magnolia. The district contest was supervised by Paul Francis with support from the agriculture faculty and undergraduate students.
