CNA's are vital members of the health care team. Nursing assistants are men and women who assist Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) by performing tasks related to patient care in nursing homes, hospitals, and clinics. Many experienced nursing assistants demand much
higher salaries.
Course Description The CNA program consists of 80 hours of classroom theory and 40 hours of clinical instruction in a long-term care setting providing actual hands-on care. Students who successfully complete the CNA program are eligible to take the skills and written examination that lead to Arkansas State Certification as a Nurse Assistant. This course includes nursing assistant principles, skills, and attitudes needed to provide care for geriatric patients. Students are provided with instruction to prepare them to competently provide assistance with activities of daily living and personal care needs and to adequately prepare them to communicate pertinent information regarding the patients to the appropriate health care team members. Their responsibilities may include bathing and feeding patients, making beds, answering call lights, checking vital signs and escorting patients to various departments. Skills instruction is based on level of difficulty as outlined by the Office of Long-Term Care. |
