Dr. James Roiger Endows CIS Scholarship |

The University of Arkansas at Monticello Office of Advancement announced the establishment of the James Roiger Computer Information Systems Scholarship to benefit Computer Information Systems Majors, on July 7, 2009. On the occasion of his retirement as Professor and Chair of the School of Computer Information Systems, Dr. James Roiger established the James Roiger Endowed CIS Scholarship, with matching funds from the UAM foundation. Dr.James Roiger came to the University of Arkansas at Monticello from the University of Arizona in 1993, after completing his course work for the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Communication. James taught Speech Communication courses in the School of Arts and Humanities for six years. Dr. Roiger completed all degree requirements in 1999, and after PhD degree conferral, was selected to Chair the newly created School of Computer Information Systems. He chaired the School for the ten years prior to his retirement. Before coming to academia, Dr. Roiger served twenty-one years in the United States Navy, retiring in 1981 as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. In the U. S. Navy, James was an aviation computer and electronics specialist, maintaining S-2 Trackers, F-8 Crusaders, F-4 Phantoms, and F-14 Tomcats. During his Navy career, his duty assignments included serving in squadrons on aircraft carriers during recovery of early Mercury Space Program launches, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, during the Vietnam Conflict, and during the Iranian Hostage Crisis.
