A Celebration of Academic Excellence

The University of Arkansas at Monticello School of Computer Information Systems recognized its outstanding students during an awards presentation at the School's annual reception. The reception was held on April 22, 2008, in the Capitol Dining Room at the John F. Gibson University Center.

Honored guests included The Chancellor, Dr. Jack Lassiter; the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Mr. R. David Ray; The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Dr. Clay Brown; the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ranelle Eubanks; the UAM Library Director, Ms. Sandra Campbell, and the Parents and Friends of CIS Award Nominees.

The School thanks Mrs. William Austin for her continuing scholarship support with the William R. and Katie B. Austin Endowed Scholarship fund for CIS majors, thanks Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hornaday for their continuing scholarship support with the Dan and Charlotte Hornaday Endowed Scholarship fund for CIS majors, and thanks Dr. Debbie Bryant, Ms. Lynn Harris, and Ms. Angela Marsh for their continuing CIS General Scholarship fund donations.

Guests, Students, and Faculty Attendees

The School recognized the accomplishments of the CIS programming team, coached by Ms. Lori Selby. The award winning team of Vanneisha Bunn, Freddie Gibson and Michael Howard were presented certificates of appreciation. The team won First Place honors in the COBOL programming language competition and won First Place honors in the Computer Information Systems programming competition.

Academic Achievement Recognition

The School recognized the academic achievements of CIS majors during the academic year with Certificates of Appreciation. The majors included Vannisha Bunn, Sarah Clay, Megan Fisher, John Fryer, Freddie Gibson, Micah Hughes, Kyle Knight, Felicia Leaks, Darren Mayes, Lawrence Mccoy, Donald Minnieweather, Ronald Minnieweather, Chris Morrow, Molly Norris, Philip Roberts, Caleb Satterlee, Richard Vaughn, Justin Walker, and Antonio Williams.

The Hornaday Scholarship Awardee is Micag Hughes.

Austin Scholarship

The Austin Scholarship awardee is John Fryer.

CIS General Scholarship Winners

The School awarded CIS Scholarships to CIS majors for the upcoming 2008-2009 academic year. Awardees are Felicia Leaks, Donald Minnieweather, Ronald Minnieweather, Chris Morrow, Philip Roberts, and Antonio Williams. The School also awarded a CIS scholarship to incoming Freshman Cody Allen Burrow of Texarkana, TX.

Outstanding Rookie

The Outstanding Rookie of the Year is Richard Vaughn.

Outstanding Junior

The Outstanding Junior of the Year is Freddie Gibson.

Outstanding Senior

The Outstanding Senior of the year is Sarah Clay.

Faculty Member of the Year

The Faculty Member of the Year, selected by CIS majors and minors, is Ms. Lynn Harris.

Award Presenters

CIS School Chair Dr. James Roiger served as Masters of Ceremonies for the awards presentation and was assisted in making the presentations by faculty members Ms. Karen Donham, Ms. Lynn Harris, Ms. Jean Hendrix, Ms. Terri Hopkins, and Ms. Angela Marsh. Dr. Jim Roiger, presented the Faculty Member of the Year award.

A special thanks goes to Ms. Kathryn Jacobs, the School's Support Specialist, who worked very hard to make it all happen.
