State Minimum Core Curricula

Crime Scene Investigation

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Crime Scene Investigation is available exclusively to Arkansas law enforcement personnel who are actively employed within a criminal justice organization of the State. The University of Arkansas at Monticello, in partnership with the Criminal Justice Institute of the University of Arkansas System, offers this degree program.

To successfully complete the Crime Scene Investigation program, students must take special courses through the Criminal Justice Institute along with general education courses from UAM.

To receive an Associate of Applied Science in Crime Scene Investigation, a student must first complete the Crime Scene Investigation Certificate of Proficiency and the Crime Scene Investigation Technical Certificate.  The requirements of both certificates are listed below.

Crime Scene Investigation Certificate of Proficiency
18 hours

(Note: Crime Scene Investigation awards (Certificate of Proficiency, Technical Certificate, Associate of Applied Science) must be completed sequentially.)

Criminal Justice Institute (CJI): 15 hours*

University of Arkansas at Monticello: 3 hours

ENGL 1013 (ACTS Equivalent # ENGL 1013) Composition I                               

*CJI: Crime Scene Technician Certificate Program
*CJI: Law Enforcement Certification
         These hours are earned through completion of the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy or its equivalent based upon approval of the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training.

Crime Scene Investigation Technical Certificate  
36 hours

Student must have earned the Crime Scene Investigation Certificate of Proficiency before applying for this award.

Criminal Justice Institute (CJI):12-15 hours*

University of Arkansas at Monticello: 3-6 hours

ENGL 1023 (ACTS Equivalent # ENGL 1023) Composition II
CIS 2223 (ACTS Equivalent # CPSI 1003) Microcomputer Applications (If not completing CJI: Computer Applications)

*CJI: Special Topics
*CJI: Computer Applications (If not completing CIS 2223)
          
These hours are earned through completion of the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy or its equivalent based upon approval of the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training.

Crime Scene Investigation Associate of Applied Science Degree
 62-65 hours

Student must have earned: Crime Scene Investigation Certificate of Proficiency AND Technical Certificate  before applying for this award.

Criminal Justice Institute (CJI): 8 hours*

University of Arkansas at Monticello: 18-21 hours

PSCI 2213 (ACTS Equivalent # PLSC 2003) American National Government      
PSY 1013 (ACTS Equivalent # PSYC 1103) Introduction to Psychology
SOC 2213 (ACTS Equivalent # SOCI 1013) Introduction to Sociology
COMM 1023 (ACTS Equivalent # SPCH 1003) Public Speaking
MATH 0183 Intermediate Algebra or any higher-level mathematics course except MATH 2243 or MATH 3553

One of the following courses:

HIST 1013 (ACTS Equivalent # HIST 1113) Survey of Civilization I
HIST 1023 (ACTS Equivalent # HIST 1123) Survey of Civilization II
