Where Learning Meets Nature: UAM To Host Educator Workshop on July 23

CFRAN PLT Workshop

The College of Forestry, Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Arkansas at Monticello is hosting a Project Learning Tree professional development workshop on Wednesday, July 23 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Titled “Explore Your Environment”, this engaging workshop offers a fun, interactive opportunity for both formal and informal educators to deepen their understanding of nature and environmental education. Participants will receive PLT’s Explore Your Environment: K-8 Activity Guide, which includes 50 hands-on lessons covering topics such as forests, wildlife, water, energy, climate science and more.

This workshop is ideal for classroom teachers, homeschool educators, 4-H leaders and anyone working with youth who is seeking interactive environmental curriculum.

“Project Learning Tree’s curriculum is designed to give educators practical tools and activities they can use right away in their classrooms or youth programs,” Rob Beadel, director of forestry education for the Arkansas Forestry Association and Arkansas state coordinator for PLT, said. “Our goal is to help connect youth to the outdoors while reinforcing essential STEM concepts and critical thinking skills.”

The event qualifies for six hours of professional development credit approved by the Arkansas Department of Education. All activities align with national education standards and are designed to promote critical thinking, STEM learning and outdoor exploration.

The cost to attend is $10, payable on the day of the workshop by cash or credit card. Attendees are asked to bring their own lunch.

To register, email Traci Rushing at trushing@uada.edu and include your name and phone number. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
