Paramedic
DESCRIPTION
The Paramedic is a professional who provides emergency care to acutely ill or injured patients, usually in the prehospital setting. The UAMCTM Paramedic Program provides students with the skills, knowledge, and clinical experience required to provide safe and effective prehospital care. The program integrates classroom, laboratory, and applied clinical practice following the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards. The program works with local ambulance services and hospitals to provide medical and trauma training in prehospital settings, emergency departments, and specialty rotations. Successful graduates are eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians certification examination and apply for licensure through the State of Arkansas.
The Arkansas Department of Health EMS Division approves the Emergency Medical Technology courses offered by UAMCTM. The UAMCTM Paramedic Program is a nationally accredited program.
EMT/Paramedic Student Learning Outcomes
Students successfully completing the UAM CTM Paramedic program will be able to:
1. Demonstrate affective, cognitive and psychomotor skills for the appropriate practice
of
emergency medical care.
2. Demonstrate the ability to rapidly and appropriately provide emergency care at
both
clinical and emergency sites.
3. Demonstrate integration of theory, clinical and field content in manners that are
appropriate, ethical and legal.
4. Demonstrate competence to pass the National Registry Exam.
Specific Graduation Requirements
In addition to completing all coursework, the University of Arkansas at Monticello
College of
Technology-McGehee, requires all students who are eligible for this technical certificate
to meet the
following criteria:
