Post-Doc/Research Associate/Instructor – Waterfowl Management

The University of Arkansas at Monticello College of Forestry, Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Arkansas Forest Resources Center have partnered with the Five Oaks Ag Research and Education Center (FoAgREC) to deliver a dynamic academic and field-based research and education program to provide advanced training for the next generation of wetland and waterfowl biologists and land managers. We are seeking a broad pool of applicants with a Ph.D. or a M.S. for a post-doctoral research associate/research associate/instructor position to work with the program coordinator and other faculty to contribute to the research, monitoring, teaching, and mentoring of graduate and graduate certificate students.

The College of Forestry, Agriculture & Natural Resources (CFANR) will be offering a new graduate certificate in waterfowl habitat and recreation management. This program accompanies the existing undergraduate and graduate programs in natural resource management, agriculture, and forest resources. The Arkansas Forest Resources Center, administered by the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, is headquartered at the University of Arkansas at Monticello campus in partnership with the College of Forestry, Agriculture & Natural Resources. The Center has the statewide mission of developing and delivering programs in research and extension that enhance and ensure the sustainability of forest-based natural resources. The Five Oaks Ag Research and Education Center has the mission to conduct agricultural research and training of resource professionals to positively impact waterfowl habitat health, diversity, and populations within the Mississippi Alluvial Valley.

We are seeking candidates for a post-doctoral research associate/research associate/instructor position with a 12-month appointment available in the College of Forestry, Agriculture, and Natural Resources (CFANR) at the
University of Arkansas at Monticello.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will make a substantial contribution to increasing instructional capacity in a key focus area of CFANR majors, namely in the area of natural resources management. The candidate will be instructor of record for 1-2 traditional lecture style courses and 1-2 field- oriented courses. The successful candidate will contribute to a regionally and nationally recognized research program in the area of wetland and waterfowl management and assist with development of experimental design and plot establishment for long-term and short term research associated with bottomland hardwoods. The successful candidate will be expected to mentor students enrolled in the graduate certificate program and assist graduate students with research activities. This appointment
will be 40% teaching (CFANR) and 60% research (University of Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station).

Qualifications: Candidates must possess a master's degree or doctorate (doctorate preferred) with an emphasis in natural resource management, wildlife management, wetland ecology, forestry, soil sciences, or closely related
discipline. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to fieldwork and teaching and mentoring students in the field through formal and informal training. Candidates must demonstrate commitment to promoting a diverse educational and professional environment. Evidence of scholarship through peer-reviewed publications and public outreach is desired. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication and interpersonal relationships.

Salary: $45,000-$50,000 annually including excellent fringe benefits. Initial 1-year contract will be offered with renewal pending satisfactory performance.
