Mission Statement

The UAM College of Technology-Crossett’s Career Services team is dedicated to helping students find gainful employment upon their successful completion of their chosen educational program.

CAREER PLANNING PROCESS

The Career Planning Process encourages individuals to explore and gather information that enables them to make decisions, set goals and take action. Each individual varies in their progress through each of these stages for many reasons. Individuals may repeat all or parts of the career development process at various points throughout their lives as values, interests, abilities, and life circumstances change.

Step One: Learning About Yourself
The first step in Career Planning involves gathering information about yourself to assist in making a decision about a career. You should develop an understanding of self, including values, interests, aptitudes, abilities, personal traits, desired lifestyle, and become aware of the interrelationship between self and occupational choice

Steps Two-Four:  Academic and Career Options
These three steps allows individuals to investigate the world of work in greater depth, narrow a general occupational direction into a specific one through an informed decision making process, and declare a major.

Career steps

Steps Five-Six:  Education & Training? Getting A Job
An initial occupational/educational choice is made in steps five and six. Individuals prepare for and begin conducting a job search, or applying to post-secondary institutions.

Step Seven (optional): Relevant/Practical Experience
In step seven individuals evaluate occupational choices and gain practical experience through internships, cooperative education, relevant summer employment, volunteer work and/or campus activities. Additionally, more specific decisions about occupational choices are made.
