"It's not where you start... It's where you finish."
See ya' at the TOP!
This page, is intended to provide the reader with information about
the Upward Bound program at UAM. It is also the intent of this page
to provide links to areas of interest to Upward Bound students and
members of the TRIO community at large.
Upward Bound, the oldest of the
Federal TRIO Programs
, has been a part of the UAM community
since 1979. The Upward Bound Program targets low-income high school
students who may also be among the first in their family to consider
going to college. The project provides intensive academic and
personal support designed to motivate and prepare the students for
college. Program participants are brought to the UAM campus weekly
on alternating Wednesdays and Saturdays during the academic year. In
the summer the program hosts a six-week residential component
designed to simulate a college-going experience for the
participants.
The Upward Bound program is funded by a grant from the
U.S. Department of Education. The area served by Upward Bound
includes ten high schools in the five southeast Arkansas counties of
Ashley, Bradley, Chicot, Desha, and Drew.
