  • What is orientation and is it mandatory?

Orientation is an interactive, in-depth session, designed to help you become more familiar with campus, learn about campus resources & student involvement opportunities, as well as meet & socialize with current & new students. This is your first step as a new Boll Weevil, and we are excited to have you join us for orientation.

  • What should I bring?

It is recommended that you wear comfortable shoes for walking and casual clothes (it will be hot!). We also recommend that you bring a raincoat and/or umbrella if the forecast calls for rain.

  • What time does orientation begin and end?

Orientation is a two-day event.  Monday’s schedule begins with check-in at 9 am and concludes on Tuesday with distribution of student IDs.  For the full schedule, visit Orientation Schedule (hyperlink to page)

  • What’s the difference between Orientation and Welcome Week?

Orientation is your first major step in becoming acquainted with the campus community. It typically takes place two days before classes start. During Your orientation group leader will be your guide throughout the campus and orientation activities.

Welcome Week is a fun transition program held beginning with move in the Sunday before classes begin in August. Essentially, it kicks off the year with a whole lot of fun and celebrating. New students transition academically and socially to college life with the help of Residence Life as well as Student Activities Board and Student Government Association leaders.

If I haven’t registered for classes yet, can I do so during orientation?

Students who have not registered for fall classes will have the opportunity to meet with an academic advisor on day 1 of Orientation to complete course registration.

  • Is there a program for parents?

There is no program for parents during Orientation.  Parent Sessions are hosted during our early registrations in late April, June and July.
