Reports

Chair: Patricia Rockwell reports on the Executive Council meeting. Upcoming convention sites are: 2006 Dallas, 2007 Louisville, 2008 Savannah, 2009 Virginia Beach, 2010 still to be determined, but a joint meeting with Central has been rejected.

Membership numbers: we are the third largest division with 98 members, Comm. Theory #2, Rhetoric #1.

Vice-Chair: Francis Brandau-Brown reports that 7 papers were submitted with 5 accepted which resulted in two panels: a top paper panel and a competitive paper panel. 2 panels submitted and both were accepted. Sandra Petronio was invited for a spotlight panel. In total we had 5 panels this conference. Submissions overall seemed low. 440 people registered...where are the papers? Francis implores members to submit so we can have more panels. Deadline for 2006 meeting is 9/15.

Vice-Chair Elect: Michael Arrington reported on the planning committee meeting information. Our division is guaranteed three panels for next year. Membership and submissions may increase panel numbers. Think broadly about panel slots. Call for papers will be out soon. Also let him know if you are willing to serve as a paper reader, panel chair or respondent.
