2004 Minutes of the SSCA Interpersonal Division Meeting

Rodney Reynolds called the meeting to order at 9:40 am. 12 people were present.
Old Business
Approval of the minutes: Minutes from last year's meeting were approved with minor corrections for spellings.
Reports
Chair's Report (Rodney Reynolds )
- Convention schedule: Baton Rouge 2005, Dallas 2006, Louisville 2007, Savannah 2008, Mid-Atlantic (DC area? Charlotte? 2009)
- John Meyer at Southern Mississippi new editor of Southern Journal of Communication.
- Janice Rushing early career research award contributions being collected.
- Every division is asked to make a nomination in writing for the Bostrom award, graduate student award.
- Volunteers needed for governance committees, pg. 12-13 of conference book has listing of
committees, let Rodney or Hal Fulmer know if you are interested.
- Other
- Conference planning materials given to Francis. Everything seems to be in order.
- Nominating Committee Rep: Michael Arrington
Vice Chair's Report (Patricia Rockwell)
- Thanks given to Patricia for all her hard work!
- Everyone who served as readers panel chairs and respondents thanked.
- 23 Submissions for this year's convention: 18 papers 2 abstracts 3 panel proposals. 7 papers were not accepted. There were 4 papers on the top paper panel, including a top student paper.
- Top Paper award given to Kelly Dorgan. Kelli Fellowes awarded student paper, (not present to receive award, Rodney will make sure she receives it).
Vice Chair Elect (Frances Bandau Brown)
- Request for paper submissions for Baton Rouge. She points out that this is a good convention city and it is only an hour from NO
- Interpersonal has higher submission rates than other divisions, would like to see trend continue
- Theme for convention is Communication, Dialog, Community
- Ideas for roundtable discussions encouraged good ways to get involved
- Creative suggestions desired, get in touch with francis at fbb@shsu.edu
- Rodney noted that spot light panels are helpful at encouraging attendance, share ideas with her for people for spotlight. (Brant Burleson, Lesli Baxter were both mentioned for consideration.)
New Business
Elections
Nominations for Vice-Chair elect opened
Rick Belo has been nominated, Michael Arrington self-nominated.
Nominees given a chance to speak on their behalf.
Michael Arrington was elected
Michael Arrington is currently our representative of Nominating Committee Next year, he will also chair our nominating process for the division
Doran O'Donnell at LSU at Alexandria will work as a nominating committee representative, Bill Edwards also agreed to serve.
