Club Elects New Officers for 2003-2004 Academic Year

At the regularly schedule club meeting, members elected new officers who were then installed by the outgoing members.

Elected were Russell Von Corker, President; Carolyn Fielder, Vice President; Jamie Wells, Secretary; George Lindsey, Treasurer; and Chris Simpson, Scholarship Chairman.

The club inducted one new member during the Spring semester, Rashonda Baker.

Completes Spring Food Drive


Recent Graduate Talks To Club Members

Carolanne Nichols, a recent graduate of UAM's Computer Information Systems program, talked to the club members during the regularly scheduled meeting about her just completed job search.


Chi Iota Sigma Installs Members and Officers

At the annual Christmas party held by the Division of Computer Information Systems on December 5th, the Chi Iota Sigma student organization inducted 20 new members and installed new officers to replace those who are graduating this month. In a ceremony conducted by James Hartshorn, the President, the CIS club installed William Smith as President, Russell Corker as Vice President, Tegaress Jones as Secretary, and George Lindsey as Treasurer. Jared Wrzesinski continues as Scholarship Officer.

The Division also awarded $100 book stipends for the Spring 2003 semester to Kristopher Allbritton, RaShanda Baker, Julian Burchetter, Carolyn Fielder, Jennifer Jones, Marcus Hill, Jesse Pipes, Mark "Chris" Simpson, William Smith, Jacquelyn Thompson, Rickey Williams, and Prentice Woods.

The party featured fine food prepared and provided by the Faculty and Students. Everyone enjoyed a great party again this year.

Chi Iota Sigma thanks everyone who contributed to the party, and especially to Ms. Nancy Tappe who did the lion's share of the work coordinating the multi-person effort.

Chi Iota Sigma Conducts Successful Coat and Food drive

The Officers and Members of Chi Iota Sigma conducted a used coat and a non-perishable food drive as their Fall 2002 community service activity. Club members, Faculty and Students at UAM were very generous with their donations. The club collected a pick-up bed full of coats and a pick-up bed full of food. William Smith, Chi Iota Sigma Vice President, served as the Chairperson for both drives.

The Division of Computer Information Systems culminated the food drive and began the Christmas celebrations with a buffet of snacks for the Division's students. The buffet food was donated by the Faculty, Staff, and Student in the Division.


Guest Speaker on UAM's GIS Program

At the November meeting, Dr. Robert Weih, a UAM faculty member in the School of Forest Resources, talked to the members about the Geographic Information Systems program and demonstrated several of the projects currently being conducted by the school.


Trip to Entergy, Pine Bluff

On October 29th, 22 club members toured the Entergy Corporation regional facility at Pine Bluff, AR, and talked with Entergy employees about necessary work skills and employment opportunities with the company. The students were accompanied by Ms. Terri Hopkins, the CIS club advisor.


Guest Speaker on Distance Education

At the September meeting, Mr. Bryan Fendley, The Director of UAM's Distance Education Program, talked to the members about the technical aspects of WWW online courses and CIV distance courses.
