Oral Communication Units and Activities

Communication Process

Students will be able to

Activities

1.Elevator (Proxemics)
Get in an elevator. Once the door closes move to a person's side, arms almost touching, and observe immediate reaction of person being "repelled" by invasion of their "space."
2. Emergency 911
3 persons in group. One person "paramedic" goes outside while "victim" and "bystander" determine the nature of the emergency. When "paramedic" is "summoned", the paramedic must determine through kinesics and nonverbal language, the nature and treatment of the "emergency".
3. Groups of 3-6.
The group is given garbage items and are to create communication model.
4. Room Observation
(memory) One minute to observe all "brown" items. Upon leaving room, they are to list all items of another color.
