Oral Communication Units and Activities

TELEVISION SHOW

Unit(s): Mass Communication

Purpose:

To teach students all of the steps involved in making a television show (writing, assigning parts, acting, time limits, etc.)

Objective:

The student will work in groups to create a 20 minute television show including 3 commercials.

Materials:

  1. Video camera
  2. Video tapes
  3. Video cassette player
  4. Tripod (optional)

Twenty Minute Televison Show

  1. The television show must be an original or an original adaptation of shows on TV.
  2. The show must be 20 minutes long (one minute allowed above or below this 20 minute time.)
  3. The show must contain at least three commercials.
  4. Every group member must be seen on camera in either commercials or show.
  5. A copy of the shows script must be turned in prior to the show. Shows without a script (game shows or talk shows) must have a detailed outline turned in before a show is taped.
  6. Each group will draw for their taping days. Two days will be allowed for each show. Retakes are possible if done during this time.
