Unit(s): INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION
Purpose:
The students will use words to describe items without giving that item's name.
Objective:
Through the use of touch, a student will experience an object and describe what it is without the use of labels.
Materials:
- A blindfold
- A basket of uncommon items (i.e. crocheted doilie, hand wrench, sandpaper, etc.)
- A stool
Procedure:
- One student will sit on the stool facing away from the class.
- Blindfold this student.
- The teacher will hand an object to the student. The class should not be able to see the object either.
- The student should describe what he is touching without saying the object's name.
- The class will guess what the item is.
- Discussion may follow. Possible questions might center around what was the clearest description? What misled you? Would it have been easier to see the item?
