Oral Communication Units and Activities

TAKE A TRIP WITH ME

Unit(s): Listening Skills

Purpose:

The purpose of this exercise is for students to realize that listening may be difficult but it is also fun.

Objective:

Students will listen to their classmates for fun and remember the information.

Materials:

None

Procedure:

  1. If possible, arrange the class in a circle.
  2. Explain that while there are many variations on this game we will use your rules.
  3. A student volunteer will begin with "I am taking a trip around the world and I am going to take a ________." The student is to fill in the blank.
  4. The next student repeats the statement and adds an item.
  5. No obscene items may be added.
  6. As the game progresses those who cannot complete the list are eliminated. The final student who can complete the entire list may be awarded a prize.
  7. If time permits, ask the students what contributed to their success? was it a matter of concentration, organization or association?
