Purpose:
To write and perform a serious drama about real teenage issues
Objective:
The students will be able to write and perform a scene on a real teenage issue of their choosing. The emphasis should be on the elements of plot(exposition, climax, resolution) as well as acting (stage movement, characterization, blocking).
Materials:
None
Procedure:
- The class should be divided into pairs.
- Each pair should choose a topic or subject that they feel strongly about, issues they deal with that maybe adults don't understand - peer pressure, drugs, violence, gangs, academic pressure, etc.
- The pair is to work together to write a scene of specific length about the chosen topic. They are to write it in their own words, slangs included, but no profanity. A discussion of plot line should precede the writing of the scene. The written script should be turned in before the performance. Allow up to three days for writing the scene.
- Rehearsal time should be given for blocking and memorization of script.
- The students will turn in scripts and perform scene, being graded on criteria stated by the teacher.
