Swat Tag

Unit(s): Acting (Energy Building Exercise)

Purpose:

To heighten energy level of each student and enforce competition and build unity (This exercise is used before a rehearsal, including line reading rehearsals.)

Objective:

Students will experience the importance of looking and responding to each other.

Students will recognize the process of acting as a response to the actions of someone else.

Materials:

  1. One nerf bat
  2. Students should sit on the floor in a circle. (Circle needs to be as large as possible)

Procedure:

  1. Students sit in a large circle.
  2. With a nerf bat, one student walks around the outside of the circle, lightly tapping each student as he passes.
  3. After passing several students, without any warning, the holder of the bat, swats a student on his/her back, drops the bat, and runs around the circle, while being chased by the person swatted.
  4. If the swatter makes it around the circle and back to the sitting place of the student he swatted, then the chaser takes the bat and begins tapping students on the back and finally hits someone and the the chase begins again.
