Drama Units and Activities

"This is Not a Stick"

Unit(s): Acting/Imagination/Warm-up

Purpose:

To encourage mental coordination/creativity, and help speed up the thought processes.

Objective:

To increase an actor's mental agility through quick thinking and spontaneity.

Materials:

3 foot piece of 1/4 inch dowel rod (variations could be a paper towel cardboard, pasteboard box, trash can lid, vase, etc.).

Procedure:

Place the stick downstage center.

Have each actor in turn use the stick in a way that transforms it into something else.

Each object must have stick-like qualities. For example, the stick could be a diving board, but not a swimming pool.
