Unit(s): Stage Movement
Purpose:
To demonstrate to students the value of physical placement on stage for messages to be conveyed
To demonstrate to students the value of the body in acting
Objective:
The student will develop a story in five visual pictures.
Materials:
- Nursery rhymes of children's stories
- Examples:
- A. Little Red Riding Hood
- B. Rumplestiltskin
- C. Rapunzel
- D. Three Bears
- E. Hansel and Gretel
Procedure:
- Students are placed in groups of 4 to 7 people and given a story.
- They will then examine the plot and find five key scenes which will tell the story and then the students will make still pictures out of their bodies.
- Students do not have to be people. They can be trees, stumps, tables, or anything.
- After taking fifteen minutes to come up with the five pictures, the students are brought in front of the audience. The audience is asked to close their eyes and with a count of five, the first picture is made and with another count of five, the students observe and take in the picture.
- This repeats until all the stills have been shown and the audience is asked to respond to the story title.
