Stage Dubbing

Unit(s): Stage Movement/Improvisation

Purpose:

To establish a cooperative effort on stage between performers and to develop a smooth flow between vocal usage and stage movement

Objective:

Students will utilize both the voice and the body showing expression and characterization.

Materials:

None (students should be given a topic such as: " Are you tired of running yet?")

Procedure:

  1. Two teams of two students each should be used for this activity.
  2. Team A sit and initiate a conversation while Team B (stand downstage) and act out (mime) the actions prompted by the conversation.
  3. Those speaking dialogue (Team A) do not move and those moving (Team B) do not speak.
  4. In this version, the movement is prompted by the dialogue.

Option: A variation could be that those doing the movement can lead the situation, while those speaking follow their lead.
