Unit(s): Stage Movement/Mime
Purpose:
To strengthen observation/creativity
Objective:
The student will be able to develop acute observation and to observe "moving parts."
Materials:
None needed.
Procedure:
- Split the class into even-numbered groups. After they have been divided, assign each group a "machine" to "become."
- For instance, with three students, two could hold their arms together, forming a circle and one student be in the middle of the circled arms. With a revolving movement, the middle student could reflect the beaters or the "chopper" in a blender, etc.
- Evaluation is on the basis of how authentic the "movements" are and how much the students observes of the machine's workings.
- Examples: Tractor, lawn mower, hand mixer, stand mixer, vacuum cleaner, merry-go-round, tilt-a-whirl, typewriter, bulldozer, crane, etc.
