Unit(s): Introduction to Theatre/Stage Movement/Mime
Purpose:
To develop observation - expression
Objective:
Students will be able to create and sustain a mime "character" while responding to and interacting with others in the scene.
Materials:
None needed
Procedure:
- After the class is split into evenly-divided groups, you assign or allow them to develop a mime which expresses a favorite vacation activity.
- However...each one in the group must be one aspect of that activity.
- Example: One person is selling the hot dogs, one is umpire, one is running bases, one is taking tickets, etc.
- Yet...all members of the group are "performing" at the same time and the class must determine the integral thread of commonality that allows the activity to be called "Baseball Game"..."Fishing" etc.
- This is loads of fun with a creative class! You wouldn't believe some of the "fish" that have been caught!
