Why Am I Here?

Unit(s): Introduction to Theatre

Purpose:

To encourage students to set personal goals for the class

Objective:

The students will recognize the value of the class and its content by setting personal goals.

Materials:

Students will need pencils, paper and cassettes.

Procedure:

  1. After a brief overview of its curriculum, have students write a list of goals that they would like to achieve as a result of the course.
  2. Ask students to write an objective self-analysis. Tell them, "Don't be too modest. Identify your strengths and weaknesses - vocal, physical, mental. What kinds of roles do you think you could play?"
  3. Ask students to write a brief summary of their theatre experiences as performers, readers, and audience members.
  4. In order to highlight student growth in the course and encourage self-evaluation, have students interpret a nondramatic literary work that does not exceed 2 minutes. Record their performances.
