Christian Harris of Crossett (second from right), a student at the UAM College of Technology-Crossett, was recently selected to receive the American Legion Post 111 Scholarship. According to Linda Rushing, vice chancellor of the Crossett campus, the $500 scholarship is awarded annually to a student currently enrolled in a UAM COT-Crossett technical program who has “exceptional academic standing and attendance and has demonstrated a strong work ethic.” Harris is studying electromechanical technology-instrumentation. MONTICELLO, AR — Three undergraduate psychology students from the University of Arkansas at Monticello presented a poster of their original research at the annual conference of the Arkansas Psychological Association (ArPA) held recently in Conway.
The Student Nurses Association at the University of Arkansas at Monticello received three awards at the 65th annual Arkansas Nursing Students’ Association convention recently in Little Rock. The UAM SNA received the Community Health Award, the Financial Excellence Award, and the Image of Nursing Award. The Community Heath Award was presented for the UAM nursing students’ work with Hope Place, which provides infant care kits to mothers. MONTICELLO, AR — Pamela Jones of Anchorage, Alaska a junior general studies major at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has been awarded a “Teacher for the Dream” grant from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).
MONTICELLO, AR — Twelve women have been selected to the 2016 homecoming court at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. UAM will celebrate homecoming October 22. The homecoming queen will be selected by a vote of the student body and announced during pre-game ceremonies prior to UAM’s football game with Ouachita Baptist University.
MONTICELLO, AR — Trey Rainwater of Bastrop, La., and Drew Fleming of Hamburg caught five bass weighing a total of 11 pounds, 4 ounces at the Walmart-sponsored FLW College Fishing Southern Conference Tournament on the Ouachita River last week and will represent the UAM College of Technology-Crossett at the 2017 College Fishing National Championship Tournament May 31 through June 2, 2017 on Wheeler Lake in Florence, Ala.
MONTICELLO, AR — A t-shirt design by Brittany Barnard of Warren will serve as the official t-shirt of the inaugural celebration of University of Arkansas at Monticello Chancellor Karla Hughes. Barnard’s design was chosen from 26 entries in a campus-wide student competition and highlights the inaugural theme “Honoring tradition, focusing on the future.” The t-shirts will be given to students at a picnic on Monday, October 17 hosted by Dr. Hughes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Centennial Clock Tower at the center of campus.
