Dr. John Davis Named Director of Governmental Relations

MONTICELLO, AR — John Davis is passionate about politics. A quick look around his office is a dead giveaway, although you might not be able to guess his political leanings, which is just the way he wants it. Davis’ cramped office on the second floor of the Memorial Classroom Building at the University of Arkansas at Monticello is adorned with photographs of President George H.W. Bush, a young Bill Clinton campaigning for Congress, a Norman Rockwell print of John Kennedy, and a campaign poster touting his grandfather, the late John C. Davis, for sheriff of Independence County.

UAM Releases Final List Of May 2016 Graduates

MONTICELLO, AR — The University of Arkansas at Monticello presented 446 awards to 443 students during May commencement exercises, according to information released today by the UAM registrar’s office. Record Contingent Of El Dorado Students To Attend UAM

MONTICELLO, AR — The 2016 graduating class at El Dorado High School will be well represented at the University of Arkansas at Monticello this fall. A record-setting contingent of 20 students have accepted El Dorado Promise Scholarships to attend UAM, according to Chancellor Karla Hughes. “This is wonderful news and we are excited that such a large group of students from one high school have chosen to come to UAM,” said Hughes. “The El Dorado Promise Scholarship Program is providing a lasting legacy for that community and we are pleased to share in the results.”

UAM Sets Preregistration Sessions for July 11-12

MONTICELLO, AR — The University of Arkansas at Monticello will hold a preregistration session for incoming freshmen July 11 and a second session July 12 for transfer students and re-admitted students, according to Tawana Greene, executive director of enrollment.

ASBTDC To Offer Seminar In Marketing Techniques

MONTICELLO, AR — Techniques to help small businesses market their goods and services is the subject of a free seminar by the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center. The seminar will be held July 14 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Monticello/Drew County Chamber of Commerce building.

UAM Professor Presents Paper At San Francisco Conference

MONTICELLO, AR — Dr. Kate Stewart, professor of English at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, was invited to make a formal presentation to the 27th annual conference of the American Literature Association held recently in San Francisco.

UAM Students Receive Language and Cultural Immersion During Study-Abroad Program In Costa Rica

MONTICELLO, AR — Six students from the University of Arkansas at Monticello recently spent two weeks in Costa Rica as part of an intensive Spanish Study and Cultural Immersion Program. The students were Alma Rivera of Wilmar, Kelsey Schrimpf of Jefferson City, Mo., Merrell Miles of Warren, Carly Curry of Sheridan, Katlyn Williams of Shreveport, La., and Annsley Davis of Monticello. They were accompanied by Isabel Bacon, associate professor of Spanish.

Colleges of Technology To Hold Commencement Exercises June 23-24

MONTICELLO, AR — The UAM College of Technology-Crossett will hold commencement exercises on Thursday, June 23 while the UAM College of Technology-McGehee will hold commencement on Friday, June 24. Both ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

A Taste of Heirloom Tomatoes Highlights “Tomatoes at the Trotter” June 30

MONTICELLO, AR — Heirloom tomatoes will be on the menu as part of the sixth annual “Tomatoes at the Trotter” on June 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s Trotter House bed-and-breakfast at 404 North Main in Monticello. The event is being sponsored by the UAM School of Agriculture and the UA Southeast Research and Extension Center.
