Nursing Professor Receives $6,000 Scholarship From Hearst Foundation to Conduct Dissertation Research

MONTICELLO, AR — Christine Felts, associate professor of nursing and clinical coordinator at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has received a $6,000 scholarship from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation through the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences to conduct research for her doctoral dissertation.

            Felts, who joined the UAM faculty in 2001, s studying the experiences of female college students who participated in casual sex and its physical or psychological health consequences. "I'm hoping this study will help to develop a more effective sexual health education program on college campuses," Felts explained.

            Felts holds a bachelor of science in nursing degree from Deaconess College of Nursing and a master of science degree from Texas Women's University. She expects to complete her doctoral student at UAMS in six months.
