Three UAM Faculty Members Present Papers To Arkansas Philological Association

MONTICELLO, AR — Three members of the English faculty at the University of Arkansas at Monticello presented papers to the annual meeting of the Arkansas Philological Association at the organization’s annual meeting in Heber Springs October 13-15.

            Sarah Bloom, associate professor of English, Andrew Nelson, instructor of English rhetoric and composition, and Dr. Kate Stewart, professor of English, presented papers to the gathering of scholars from 13 colleges and universities in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas.

            Stewart presented a paper entitled “’A Celebrated Preacher’ and ‘A Christian Reformer’: Herman Melville and Rebecca Harding Davis Explore Christianity in Transition.” Bloom read 10 poems from her collection entitled Everlasting Too Late. Nelson presented ‘ An Open Educational Resource for the Freshman Writing Section.”

            In addition to presenting a paper, Stewart was reappointed APA executive secretary-treasurer.
