UAM Announces Math Contest Winners

MONTICELLO, AR — Top mathematics students from high schools, junior highs and middle schools across southeast Arkansas put their skills to the test at the Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics Regional Math Contest held Saturday morning at the University of Arkansas at Monticello Science Center.

            Students competed in algebra I, geometry, algebra II, trigonometry and pre-calculus, calculus and statistics. First, second and third place winners in each category will be invited to compete in the state ACTM contest later this spring.

            The winners, by category, were (pictured from left, first row):

            • Algebra I – Infinity Washington, Pine Bluff Dollarway High School (first place); Gabrielle Shelby, Watson Chapel Junior High School (second place); Anna Claire Smith, White Hall Middle School (third place).

            • Geometry – Koby Drake, White Hall High School (third place); Justin Dady, White Hall High School (second place); Samuel Doss, White Hall High School (first place).

            The winners, by category, on the second row (left to right) were:

            • Algebra II – Jamya Pinkney, Monticello High School (first place); Hunter Smith, White Hall High School (second place); Magnus Gray, Warren High School (third place);

            • Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus – George R. Tadros, White Hall High School (first place); Tyler Thomasson, Pine Bluff High School (second place); Bin Qasim, White Hall High School (third place).

            The winners, by category, on the top row (from left) were:

            • Calculus – Yinghan Chen, White Hall High School (first place); Nathaniel Gregg (not pictured), Star City High School (second place); and Regenal Armour, White Hall High School (third place).
